Abstract artists deliberately
concentrate their attention on the
formal elements of a painting or
sculpture: its color, shape, form
( which may be either geometric or
organic and sometimes a mixture of
both), or texture in its purest state.
They consider this the most
completely satisfying method of
attaining a harmonious aesthetic
unity.
Their compositions make a direct
visual and emotional appeal, without
the religious, historical, or literary
associations that were made in
European art of the previous
centuries.
Yet the urge to communicate a
specific mood or train of thought is
often no less strong than in the work
of more conventional figurative
artists, and, indeed, the abstract
artist has claimed for his work a
universal validity transcending
national frontiers.
Abstract art, has spread from Europe
to North and South America, to India
and Japan, this claim its partly true,
at least for urban societies.
