Stella Lillig

I work in geometric abstraction, building compositions the way you'd build an argument — nested forms, deliberate color, structure that holds tension until it resolves. From my open studio in Brooklyn, I've been developing this practice since 2010, showing work at Highline Open Studios and around New York City. Titles aren't afterthoughts in my work; they're the last move in the composition, the sentence that finishes the thought the painting started. I'm drawn to the moment where rigor and feeling meet — where a grid stops being a grid and starts being something you recognize in yourself. That's the moment I'm chasing in the studio, and it's the moment I want waiting for you on the other side of the canvas.
